Heat water to near boiling on top of stove or in electric pot (do not microwave). Add lemon juice and lavender buds or pure, food grade lavender essential oil (check label or call mfg.) to cup. Steep for five minutes. Add honey to taste and sip slowly. If you cannot find lavender buds, one drop of lavender essential oil will serve just as well.

Last weekend, I spent a chilly winter afternoon at the beautiful Temescal Gateway Park. I love the trees there. They are old with deep roots for good grounding energy.

Though we spent much of the day inside, it was cold. Then, the sun came out and it warmed up --- but it was still chilly. We worked indoors, then out, than back indoors and out again. My body temperature fluctuated from freezing cold to hot. I perspired and shivered throughout the entire day. Then, to complete my personal recipe for sickness, the fans came on in the room and we didn't know how to turn them off. By the time I got home my throat was scratchy and I had a low-grade fever.

It's tough, even for healers, to exercise sound self-care when you're not feeling your best. This is when ancestral and Divine intervention come into play.

We are connected to a host of helpers and supporters from the spirit realm to help us navigate life's challenges. In a moment of clarity, the ancestors reminded me of this age-old remedy. Benefits include:

  • Hydrates the body
  • Detoxifies
  • Boosts immune system
  • Calms the nerves
  • Settles the tummy
  • Aids digestion

I drank gallons of this tea for six days, never resorting to prescription or OTC medication. I broke fever within 24 hours and body aches, though still present, were greatly reduced. I enjoyed restful sleep and resumed a regular work schedule (from home) by day five.
