Reiki is a subtle energy technique for stress reduction and deep relaxation that also promotes healing.  It is performed by certified practitioners on men, women and children of all ages.

The word “reiki” (RAY-kee, noun) is a blended term meaning “intuitively-guided life force energy.” It is the energy that vibrates through and around all living matter. The term Reiki (the verb) refers to the practice of Reiki as a therapy for stress relief, deep relaxation and to promote healing. There are many different schools of Reiki practiced in the United States and beyond.  Wellness Uprising (WU) practices Usui Shiki Ryoho (The Usui Traditional System of Natural Healing) in the tradition of Dr. Mikao Usui.

Reiki is a powerful, yet simple technique to learn. Children can be easily taught how to access and perform Reiki on themselves and to help others.  A unique benefit of Reiki is that each time Reiki is given, Reiki is received by the practitioner.  The same healing vibrations that are passed on to recipients must first pass through the practitioner, with all the same benefits!

Reiki is offered in more than 800 U.S. hospitals including Cedars Sinai, Torrance Memorial Hospital and the UCLA Medical Center in both the Pediatric Pain Clinic and as part of the Urban Zen Integrative Therapy Program.  Reiki bears no contraindications with prescription drugs or medical treatments. According to the National Institute of Health (NIH) National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), “Reiki appears to be generally safe, and no serious side effects have been reported.”

Life force flows within the physical body through energy pathways. It also flows around us in a field of energy called the aura. Life force nourishes the organs and cells of the body, supporting them in their vital functions. When life force is disrupted by trauma and negative thoughts and feelings, it causes diminished vital functioning of the organs and cells of the body. Reiki helps by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and charging them with positive energy. It raises the vibratory level of the energy field in and around the physical body where negative thoughts and feelings are attached. This causes the negative energy to break apart and fall away. In doing so, Reiki clears, straightens and heals the energy pathways, thus allowing the life force to flow in a healthy and natural way.

Students will know how to access Reiki for personal healing, deep relaxation and for helping close friends and family.
