REIKI FOR TEENS
Being a teenager is hard. Being a teenager in Los Angeles can be even more complex. Life moves fast and the pressure to perform for parents, teachers and friends can be overwhelming. According to the Alliance for Children's Rights, during the 2009 - 2010 school year, California schools suspended more children than they graduated. Lawrence Palevsky, M.D., FAAP, former chief of pediatric acute care at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, has reportedly promoted Reiki as a valuable part of care for conditions that impact youths including stress, anxiety, ADHD, ADD, asthma and IBS.
Social cliques, lack of impulse control, developing gender and sexual identities, exam anxiety and trying to find a space to just "be," in the world can cause emotional havoc and confusion in a sensitive teen. Reiki can help.
Administered over time, Reiki can help balance your teen's emotions so they are less likely to show signs of excitability and depression, improve concentration, release anger, enhance sleep, calm the nerves, and boost self-esteem.
Reiki is non-invasive and there is minimal touching involved. Fully-clothed clients sit semi-upright and listen to soothing music as the Practitioner holds his/her hands a few inches above the body. The subtle nature of Reiki is comforting and deeply relaxing.
Introduce the teens in your life to Reiki. They will love the sense of inner peace, calm and clarity it brings to their sometimes chaotic world. To begin, we recommend a frequency of once weekly for at least three weeks.
Wellness Uprising also offers Reiki classes for young people to learn self-care and how to help family members with this gentle healing modality.
